Diane(s!) and Tithing

Hi Everyone!

It really was a good week this week. Diane is as amazing as ever. She asked Grandpa Morris if he would baptize her, and he hasn't baptized anyone before, and he was honored. She came to church on Sunday and loved it. Everyone came and talked to her, and introduced themselves. I swear she is more popular than we are. :) It felt so natural for her to be there, like she just needs to be member of the church already! Please keep her in your prayers so that she will be able to stop smoking and be baptized. :)

I of course have more things to say about Diane, as she is probably my favorite person in all of Sharpsburg, but I want to shake things up and talk about someone else. Ironically, this person is ALSO named Diane. I think people named Diane must just attract miracles. Even my aunt Diane has amazing things happen to her! Anyways, we felt prompted to go knock doors in this one neighborhood. Previously, this neighborhood had scared me, because it looked really expensive because there were not very many trees and the lots and houses were HUGE. (Folks, if you find land in Georgia that is NOT covered with trees, its because there was a very expensive tree removal done. Hence why I am now afraid of land with no trees.)

But we prayed and felt very strongly that this was where we needed to be. The first house we knocked on was where we found (the other) Diane. She was housesitting for her daughter, who was out of town. We asked her if we could say a prayer, and if there was anything specific we could include in the prayer. She mentioned the daughter who lived there because she was out of town for doctors appointments. They didn't know what was wrong with her, and Diane started crying when she told us this. We left her with a prayer, a very powerful and peaceful prayer that was definitely led by the Spirit, and she quietly wept and said, "I know that you were sent to me today. Thank you." Sadly, not much will happen with her because she will be going back to her own home soon. But I feel like I am still achieving my purpose of helping others come to Christ even with those small things.

Ok, back to my Diane. The Diane that we found because I prayed for kittens. Gosh, this is confusing, y'all. This week we taught her a lot of things but the coolest lesson was tithing. I know, I never thought tithing could be spiritual. But after we finished explaining tithing, Diane explained how she had set aside 10% of her taxes for tithing, but had started seeing that as her rainy day fund. She knew it was from Heavenly Father, and said a prayer of gratitude that she had gotten that reminder that day. Cool, huh?

I really like this analogy for tithing- God gives you 10 oranges. You give Him one orange back in gratitude. And then He gives you orange juice. :) Tithing is really just an expression of gratitude for what God has already given us. I know it was hard for me at times to pay tithing because I saw all the things I could have bought with that money, but I did it anyway and I know I was richly blessed for that.

Well, I love y'all so much. (yes I say y'all now. a lot.) Hope y'all have a wonderful week full of miracles!

And next week I'll tell you all the things I learned from Quentin L Cook, one of the Twelve Apostles this weekend! Stay tuned!
