Families

Hi Everyone!

This week we had Zone Training. Usually, the theme is a call to repentance- how we need to work harder, plan smarter, and have more faith. They are great and you learn a lot, but it was usually draining. This week the theme was something different: Families. That's all. Just families.

Why do you think the Lord designed families the way He did? The more I've learned out on my own, the more I have appreciated my parents for teaching me good things, and for loving me enough to send me out on my own to learn more. That's why our loving Heavenly Father sent us here to Earth, to learn and to grow on our own. He is still there, just a prayer away, whenever we need Him, but we don't live under His immediate protection anymore because we don't live with Him right now. And that's how we learn!

And although I'm not a parent (looking forward to being one someday), as I've talked to parents, I know that parents would do anything for their children. They love them unconditionally, even when they make mistakes. Which is why I believe in a loving Heavenly Father, someone who deals justly and yet mercifully. He is merciful when we obey His commandments, and just when we don't. Sometimes parents have to give tough love.

And this is why Satan hates families- because they are designed to remind us of our Heavenly Home. That's why there is such an attack on families- because that is the quickest way for us to forget our Father.

And that is why the work I'm doing here is so important to me. We are trying to find Heavenly Father's children, remind them that they are His children, and bring them back to Him. And another reason why I am serving a mission is so that my family- current and future- will know how important the Savior is to me, and that I will serve Him to the end.

Just today, at the grocery store, we were talking to one of the workers who started asking us questions. He said he was having a bad day. When I offered him the Book of Mormon, and promised Him it would make His day better and bring him closer to Christ, he said, "Give it to someone who is more worthy." That just broke my heart. So I said, "Bobby, you are absolutely worthy. You are a child of God. And I can't think of a better person to have this book than you." So he took it, with our card, and promised to read it.

Sometimes, the mission is a bit of an uphill battle. But what I'm learning is how much Heavenly Father really loves His children- and would do anything to have them return to Him. So that's why I'm willing, in return, to keep going to bring His children back to Him. But if it is as simple as reminding just one person how special and important they are to God, it's worth it.

I love you all! Have a wonderful week!
