Hi Friends and Family!
Wow, what a week! I got a new companion, Sister Tavenner. She's awesome and she's also from Idaho! So we make quite the team. :)
This week we saw a lot of miracles, despite being stuck at home for a day because of the ice storm. We were just fine, we only lost power for a couple hours. But when we lose power we also lose water... but it worked out alright in the end. What's funny is our bishop came over to visit, making sure that we were ok. We wanted to teach somebody, even the Bishop, so I asked if I could share a scripture with him. As soon as I finished reading the scripture the power came back on. Wow! SCRIPTURE POWER! :)
Now I want to talk about Diane. Because I just love Diane, and I think she's amazing. Guess what? She stopped smoking for ONE DAY. That's amazing, y'all! This is a woman who smoked a pack a day for 50 years... and she didn't have a cigarette all day. I was so proud of her.
Of course, when you do something to positively change your life, Satan is almost immediately right there. The next day the adversary made her feel so overwhelmed by life that she fell back into the habit to give her some comfort. We asked if we could come over and she spent the first 10 minutes of the visit just sobbing and telling us why she was so discouraged, and everything that was going wrong in her life. I was praying to know what I could possibly say to her, because I've never been in that situation and I didn't know what to do.
The first thing that came to mind was "ask her if she wants a priesthood blessing." We had just come from visiting a family, and the wife told us how her husband gives amazing blessings. He lives right down the street from her, so he came over and gave her a blessing. Wow. The spirit in the home completely changed. And the blessing was all about how Heavenly Father sees Diane and her potential. I thought I loved her and could see her potential, but Heavenly Father sees SO MUCH MORE. She was a completely different person when we left. She was smiling, she was saying "I can do this!" and she was ready to take things one step at a time. It was amazing!!!
Now for a funny story. There's a place called Waffle House here. It's like a lower class of Denny's. What's hilarious is we went there the day BEFORE Valentines Day, and they were only seating those with reservations. Hilarious. So we sat at the bar, and we noticed an older gentleman sitting on the other side of the bar. He looked lonely, so we asked him if we could sit by him and we scooted over. We started talking about how much he loves the West, and about his family and where he grew up. We were about to leave when he said, "You ladies are the most wholesome I've seen in a long time, and I've so appreciated our conversation. Tell you what, I'll pay for your dinner." We said that's ok, but he insisted, so he bought our dinner. As a thank you gift, I asked if I could give him a Book of Mormon. I told him it was the best gift I could ever give him. He accepted it gladly, and promised to read it, and gave us his phone number so we could meet with him again! It was quite adorable.
Well, I love y'all. I hope you have a wonderful week!
