Hi Everyone!
I just want you to know that I think about what I'm going to say to all of you throughout the week. I really try hard to think through what would be most beneficial for y'all to hear, and how I can best relate my experiences to you. And this week I swear I had some good ideas! And now I've got nuthin'.
I'm leaving Sharpsburg! I've been here 6 months and they are kicking me out. I should have known when the members started saying goodbye last week. Haha
I guess this week, what has been on my mind is the real power the youth have. I'm not meaning myself, I'm meaning people under the age of 16.
For example, this week we visited a couple members and taught their children lessons from Preach My Gospel. I love drawing the Plan of Salvation in sidewalk chalk on the driveways and having the children stand in the Celestial Kingdom with me (in a chalk circle on the driveway). I also love the lesson where you have a quarter in a jar, representing the Holy Ghost, and how when you add cotton balls to the jar you can't hear the quarter in the jar as well. Just as we never lose the gift of the Holy Ghost, the quarter is always there, but our choices enable us to listen to the Holy Ghost, where our sins (cotton balls) deaden our ability to hear the Holy Ghost.
As we taught about 5 families with children these lessons this week, I was amazed at how quickly they understood the message. We also asked the children who we could pray for with them to have missionary experiences with. And we received so many referrals just from these children! It's true what M Russell Ballard said, "primary children can be missionaries too!"
And just this week we were already able to have some new investigators come from these children's referrals. And we even taught a 13 yr old in our ward how to teach her friend the first lesson, since she has been talking with him on the bus about the Book of Mormon. Want to know why he started asking Emmy (the 13 yr old) about the Book of Mormon? Because she was reading it on the bus. WHAT an AMAZING example!
I wish I had known at that age what an amazing influence I could have had. These youth are already becoming missionaries, they aren't waiting until they are 18, 19 or 23 ;) years old. They are being missionaries RIGHT NOW and I am so proud of them.
Well, next week I'll tell ya all about my new area and new companion! Pray for me!
Sister Laser
