Hello everyone!
This week was awesome. The first and foremost reason- I live in the land of Delta, where a cute member of our ward was flying home to visit her parents, and thought of us long enough to bring us Cafe Rio sweet pork burritos. Can I just say that was the happiest way I have ever broken a fast in my life? INCREDIBLE.
But obviously, that was NOT the most important thing that happened this week. We finally saw a lot of progress with people we have been teaching for a while. Like Angelita. I talked about her in one of my first letters. We had been making little progress with her because she's just so busy, and she's having a lot of struggles financially and with family, so it's hard for her to make commitments. But we taught her the Plan of Salvation and she agreed to be baptized! It was great! I have high hopes for her to make it to baptism. Now just everyone pray that she will come to church!
Secondly, Dana. I talked about her 2 months ago. We had a KILLER first lesson, but the poor woman is so busy that all return appts we had with her failed. We finally just showed up at her doorstep on Halloween as we were trick-or-tracting (yes, we really called it that) with members and we were able to talk to her for an hour. She's speaking at the LDS conference center for a Mozart concert/PBS special this Saturday. But she has a feeling that her going to Salt Lake is simply a means to an end. She knows something big will happen while she's there. She doesn't know what, but she knows someone will enter her life, or something will happen, that will change her. So here's a second person to pray for: DANA. We want her to have an AWESOME experience in Salt Lake, and I'm praying that that experience she KNOWS she will have will be related to the Church and to becoming a member of it. I have the faith it will happen!
Last, Jessica. She was the one we helped move into her house the day she moved in and decorated her 3-year-old daughters room. We invited her and her family to the trunk or treat and they ALL came! They made like 11 friends, our ward is so incredible. Her daughter said, "Mama, I had fun." And then at the Trunk or Treat I invited her to come to church on Sunday, and she said yes and she was there yesterday! It was awesome because we ended up teaching the Relief Society lesson. All we did was write "God is our Loving Heavenly Father" on the board, and had everyone share experiences where they felt God's love in their life and bless their families. It was so spiritually packed, I was crying! Afterwards, Jessica said, "I wanted to share but I was so nervous to speak in front of everyone. But this is what I wanted to say. I was praying so hard for someone to help us move. It was so hard being pregnant, and I was so discouraged. That's when the Relief Society sisters came to my door and offered help. Then you girls (thats me!) showed up, and you have been such a blessing. You have been an answer to my prayer, and that's how I feel God's love. I want to come back every week!" WOW!!! I love it! She made me cry too! How amazing is that?
Gosh. The church is true. Life is HARD, but the gospel of Jesus Christ isn't. I know Heavenly Father loves us, and takes care of us when we let Him. I know that He hears and answers our prayers in His time. I've seen that ever so much on my mission. I also can feel God's love for all his children so strongly on a mission. It is overwhelming at times. And I say those things in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
