I LOVE my Major

Today, I got a package in the mail before class that I was really excited about. I kept fidgeting and checking the clock for the 3 hours that I'm in class. I could hardly wait to go home, rip open this package, and devour its contents.

My friends, that package was my textbook for my marketing class.

Before you think I'm crazy, or a nerd, or that I must be manipulative because I love marketing, let me tell you why I was so excited to read my textbook.

In my patriarchal blessing (for those not of the LDS faith, it's revelation we receive once in our lifetimes that helps us throughout our life, kind of like a personal set of scriptures), I was told that when it came time for higher education I would know exactly where to go and what I would want to become. It's true, up until my senior year of high school I had no idea where to go and what to major in. Suddenly it became very clear that I wanted to go to BYU and study marketing, even though I really didn't know what marketing was.

This is my very first marketing class. My heart always flutters when I hear the word "marketing". My professor was actually a guest lecturer in one of my previous classes, which means he just barely quit his job (which is my dream job) to teach us. I get crazy excited in this class and can't take notes fast enough.

It wasn't until today that I figured out WHY I love marketing so much, and it was from reading my textbook for fun.

Marketing is all about increasing customer satisfaction and managing consumer relationships. Essentially, it's about making people HAPPY. Even if you hardly know me, you know that I am a happy person and that I love getting to know people. I love to make people laugh and to see them smile.

Some people are just meant to do things. Usually, you think of that in terms of talents like musical or sports abilities. I was meant be a marketer. And it's really comforting to know that God has a plan for me and gave me the tools I needed to succeed.
