Kittens and Cigarettes

Hi Family and Friends!

 

This week was such a week of MIRACLES. I mean, I talk about miracles every week, in case you didn't notice. :) But this week we had some AMAZING miracles that just let me know how much God loves me!

 

So I was thinking a lot about the Brother of Jared, and how he had a very specific prayer. He prayed for the Lord to touch 16 stones to make them glow! (Ether chapters 2-3 in the Book of Mormon) That's a very specific prayer! So I decided to try it out! This week was Fast Sunday, so I decided to fast for something very specific. I was going to fast for: a family, that was prepared to hear the gospel and be baptized, that had KITTENS. Yes, kittens. Baby cats. All y'all that know me well shouldn't be that surprised.

 

Tuesday we were making lots of calls and I swear we were having more failures than successes. I was about ready to give up on making phone calls because we were getting so much rejection. But the Spirit said to call this one former investigator (someone who has met with missionaries before). We had been by her house 3 times but she never answered. So I obeyed and called. I'M SO GLAD I DID. Diane told us we couldn't have called at a better time because she was getting ready to call for help. Everything that could possibly be going wrong in a persons life was happening to her. Her car's motor is broken, the pipes froze, the heater was broken (and it was COLD here!), she had lost her job, couldn't get the gov't checks she needed, her computer was broken, and the power has been cut off to her house. Holy cow! So we set up an appointment that day to see her, and grabbed the Relief Society President to go with us.

 

Basically, Diane wanted to get baptized a long time ago, but couldn't because she couldn't quit smoking. When we got to her house she told us that the Spirit had said "You will either quit smoking or you will have lung cancer." That day, Tuesday, she was going to a doctor to see if she had lung cancer! She is extremely motivated to stop smoking now! She's read the Book of Mormon, went to the Temple Open House when the Atlanta Temple got remodeled, and said "you could practically touch the Spirit in that place". She is SO prepared!

 

But the BEST PART... is when this tiny orange kitten with big green eyes walked into the room at Diane's house. Oh my word. It looked JUST like my cat Lemonade when she was a kitten who passed away 5 months ago when she was 15 yrs old. This kitten came right up to me, and I picked it up and put it in my lap. It fell asleep in my lap for the whole hour we were with Diane. That was just my giant hug from Heavenly Father this week.

 

And you think I'm done, right? Not even close!!!

 

Friday, we went to visit a girl but met her roommate. She was outside smoking, and we found out she had met with elders before. She had been reading the Book of Mormon too! She invited us inside, and we taught her the whole Restoration. She had told us how she didn't believe you had to go to church and she didn't like to pray because it felt selfish. I asked a couple of questions that I know the Spirit told me to say, because I can't remember them, and the Spirit flooded the room. We invited her to be baptized and she said Yes and she started crying. HOLY WOW!!!

 

Oh yeah, and she has kittens too. :)

 

Basically, in short, Heavenly Father gave me the best birthday presents I could have asked for. Gosh, the church is SO TRUE. I know my Heavenly Father loves me. He answered my very specific prayer in just 2 days! And orchestrated it in such a way that everyone wins, and the miracle is even better than I could have planned it. Wow.

 

So I'm going to challenge all of you this week! Pray for something very specific. Be full of faith. Imagine it happening to you. And I promise you, as a representative of Jesus Christ, IT WILL HAPPEN if it is His will.
